The information contained herein is meant to act as a resource for those UVA faculty, staff and students that have recently started a new business venture, or that are thinking about forming such a new venture. This section attempts to provide a brief overview of issues that young companies spun out of a university will encounter in their first few years.

Though one may find useful information germane to running a company in an academic environment in the Services and Policies sections of this site, the information contained in this area is geared toward business issues that may be relatively unfamiliar to many faculty entrepreneurs. Such topics include an overview of trademarks, the creation of a business plan for your company, the effective presentation of a business plan to investors, and other forms of available capitalization funds, such as Federal and State grants.

The enclosed information may create more questions in the mind of an entrepreneur than it answers.
